CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD CHOOSES UC RIVERSIDE

University of California, Riverside (UCR) Chancellor Kim Wilcox, updated the Commission on the relocation of the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) facility. CARB will relocate its motor vehicle and engine emissions testing and research facility from its current location in El Monte to an 18-acre site at UCR. The facility relocation represents a $366 million investment into the community and by the end of 2020, will bring 600 highly-skilled jobs to the region. "This facility will bring together two world-class institutions working in air quality and emissions science and promises to create a whole range of synergies that simply wouldn't be possible otherwise," said Chancellor Wilcox. Anne Mayer, RCTC's Executive Director stated, "Transportation investments brings jobs and grows the economy. The relocation of the CARB facility is a poster child for the right kind of investments."

STATE ROUTE 91 HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANE PROJECT COMPLETED

The long awaited SR-91/HOV project is complete and open to traffic in both directions. The $248 million project closed a six-mile carpool gap between Adams Street and the 60/91/215 interchange. The new HOV lanes will reduce traffic congestion and delays, improve emergency response times, and enhance air quality through this heavily traveled corridor. The project was funded in part by Riverside County's Measure A, a half-cent sales tax, approved in 1988 to improve local transportation countywide. "The completion of this project provides the traveling public who elect to carpool a dedicated lane from county line to county line and it greatly improves motorist's ability to access the downtown Riverside area," stated John Bulinski, District 8 Director for Caltrans.
